 In the four years he's been with the Erion Racing Team, Crew Chief Rick Hobbs has helped guide his riders to five AMA championships, three in Formula Xtreme and two in 600 SuperSport. Hobbs has a unique ability to translate rider input into amazingly rideable machines. He is absolutely tireless when it comes to dyno work on the team's motorcycles, searching for the perfect settings for the fuel-injection systems to give the riders seamless throttle response. "The important thing is making the power delivery usable for the rider," he says. "The rider's got to be able to feed the throttle in and not feel as if it's going to light up the rear tire or upset the bike." Hobbs' greatest accolades come from Kevin Erion himself. "I think he's one of the best," Erion says, "and I've worked with a lot of guys. He has a positive and upbeat temperament, and he's done a really good job of keeping the guys motivated and happy. That's an important combination, because it creates a team that is focused and strong as a unit. I'm really glad to have him on the team as crew chief."  Back to Racing
